I don't know if I could truly ever express the amount of gratitude I have for these bright beings who've lead me on my path, but I'll never stop trying.

 

Kim Alford teaches meditation and alignment based hatha yoga, as well as Thai yoga bodywork in Atlanta. Her personal teaching style is centered around opening space for the heart-mind to lead you back to your Self. Yoga, which includes meditation, yogic breathing, physical postures and other tools,  allow the body to heal and become strong, and the mind to return to being expansive, empowered and joyful.

Kim leads you to work deeply towards your edge, all while maintaining strong awareness of your center. This allows you to learn how to discern your body’s wisdom from the competitive nature of the mind.

Practicing yoga became a passion for Kim when she was about 16 years old in 1993. Five years later she met her beloved teacher, Swami Jaya Devi. Shortly thereafter, she began to study with her luminous guru, Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati. Both of these women have had an undeniably strong influence on Kim, and have taught her how to live and help others with a full heart, guiding her style of teaching today.

Kim has an affinity for working with specific populations who suffer from pain, stress, anxiety and depression. Starting in her late teenage years, she began experiencing chronic pain and depression. That is what truly led her to discover the deeper healing effects of yoga and meditation. Now she has an understanding of the root causes of these conditions and has worked to heal herself, become strong again, with the capacity and desire to help others.

Kim completed her first 200-hour yoga teacher training at Kashi Atlanta in 2004. Since then, she’s gained well over 3,500 hours of teaching experience. She has also been co-teaching and mentoring students in the yoga teacher training at Kashi Atlanta since 2007.

To continue her own education, in 2010, she began to study Anusara Yoga with Gina Minyard and completed 150 hours of training in this style. The methodology of precise alignment and therapeutics created a platform from which Kim advanced her physical practice and teaching techniques. She is now in the process of earning a 500 hour certification in Yoga Therapy through The Center for Integrative Yoga Studies.
